From British Museum of Art description:
"Pack of postcards sold as souvenirs in northern Japan, illustrating with reproductions of ink paintings some of Matsuo Basho's 17th century haiku from his travels to northern Japan, extracted from 'Oku no Hoso Michi' (A narrow Road to the Far North).
The envelope (a) is designed on the back with space for stamp and addresses of recipient and giver; on the front with the reproduction of an image of Matsuo Basho on his horse led by a servant and printed with the title of the text from which the poems are extracted. The pack includes a map (b) of Basho's journey through northern Japan and 8 postcards (c-j), each with a haiku and an illustration of it with a colour ink painting.
The envelope (a) is designed with a photograph of pines and mountains at dawn and the back with 6 of the views included in the pack. The pack includes a map (b) of Basho's journey through northern Japan and 8 postcards (c-j), each with a haiku and an illustration of it with a photograph."
